FAQ: or How to for Rom Editor?

Postby redss on Sat Aug 20, 2005 6:26 pm

Anyone feel like taking a stab at writing a "how to" on ROM Editor? I can see that it took me a month to figure out what it is let alone using it.

just thought this would be helpful.

The one I'm using is this http://ztechz.net/id10.html
Its not for this editor, but it gives you the basics of tuning. And you have to read through it a couple times to understand it.

Had he asked if anyone knew of a basic explaination of tuning, the above link would be helpfull.

However, I believe he was seeking instruction on how to use "Rom Editor." This subject is not addressed in any way, shape or form in the above link.

You are defianetly making unesscessary posts and I'm not the only person thinking that. So what if I didn't answer his question, there is no "how-to" for the rom editor, its a very basic program with only a couple things that are hard to understand (due the bad language translation).

Most of the rom editors are the same basic program, I pointed him to that link to try and help him. By viewing his other posts in the forum looks like he started figuring things out.

Before you joined here, there had been no arguement and no bullshit posts. Your pissing a lot of people off by making stupid posts like this. If your so kind enough to reply why dont you find a how to for him, because the learning curve of the editor is easy, its the tuning aspect that is hard.

thats my 2 cents and thats all you'll get, so don't even bother repling because I'm no answering.

Yah, seems like every question is answered with that damn tutorial. Meanwhile, show me one single post that explains how Rom Editor actually works. Hell, just getting it to display properly took a damn Congressional debate.

In fact, I could get the tuning done in about 10 minuts if I could figure out what I was looking at.

As for your answer to the guys question, you were simply being smug and indignant when you directed that guy to that site. If he did figure it out, I hope your not planning on taking any credit for helping him.

I'm just begining to wonder if you guys even want to accomplish anything or just want to sit around bull sh*ting. I have a friend who is an expert who could help us all kick this into high gear and have us all tuned and running like raped apes. But it seems that everyone just want's to be smug dismissive and argumentative instead of cooperative.

I'm going to get a Megasquirt and have my sh*t slammed out while you guys are still here talking about the tutorial like a bunch of broken records. Have fun blowing your motor.

Rom Editor sucks (I know, sacrelidge). Use Tunerpro. There are some disadvantages but it works pretty well.

Dude, if you can't handle this stuff on your own, MegaSquirt is waaaaay out of your league. Anywhoo, I do understand what you are saying. It would be nice if someone made a tutorial of ROMEDITOR complete with annotated pictures and stuff.

With megasquirt you're starting from scratch so it should be a lot easier. Regardless, I found a place that sells the whole thing put together and I have a friend who can knock out the code in an hour.

As for a tutorial - excellent idea. Or perhaps just pooling info and getting more people involved in a concerted effort. Sure beats the hell out of bashing people and spending time arguing.

No kidding, I am torn up about this program. For instance, how do I come up with a unit I can relate to for any of the fuel related matters, for instance:

How can I relate to K value in terms of cc/min?

How do I use the dec info in the fuel map and use it to relate to duty or PW? I am showing 50 in the bottom right, and 192 on the upper left, how does that work since it must be more fuel, right?

I guess timing is literal, as in BTDC, so that is cool, right?

I think that is it for now, but I probably will have more. As far as me not searching, I cannot get many of the functions of this forum to work, and search is one of them.

Please help.

BONUS: Anyone who is using consult support, what are you reading for voltage on the N62 MAF at idle?
Check me out, I'm a ricer: "I am going to get a stage two turbo kit, and nitrous, just like I saw on N4S Underground!!!"

quick question....sorry to thread jack.

Is the cel timing value the actuall timing? I heard that it is the actull timing but, then i also heard that you have to divide the cell value by 2 or 2.5 to get the actull value.
